I started playing volley when I was in seventh grade. I am a little brother, and a lot of my life has been “monkey see, monkey do.” My older brother played for his high school team so naturally I rallied all my friends when I heard that my middle school was trying to start up a team. And when I began thinking about club volleyball, of course I decided to play for the same club that my brother played for. Diablo allowed my initial sibling mimicking to transcend into a long-lasting love for the game of volleyball.

My four-year tenure with Diablo included playing for some of the wisest Bay Area coaches, including Noberto Quiroz, Brian AND Kevin Fujinaga, and “the boss,” Sean Stratton. The knowledge I attained playing at Diablo allowed me to walk on at the University of California San Diego and play all four years at the Division I level, including being named captain of the team my senior year. In addition to creating myriad opportunities with volleyball and academics, my experience at UCSD was the most humbling four years of my life. I honestly believe that the years I spent playing volleyball for both Diablo and at the Division I level have given me a unique coaching perspective as well as making me a far better person.

I think I am a little young to already have a game-tested coaching philosophy, but I do believe that I have a lot to offer as far as an experienced player beginning a new chapter in his volleyball career as a coach. Over the past two summers I have done weekly clinics at various high schools all over the country for Gold Medal Squared, a system of coaching that almost every Men’s coach has adopted at the college level and that has won three gold medals for the USA Olympic team. In addition to giving me a lot of coaching experience, the Gold Medal Squared camps have introduced me to a number of college players and college coaches creating a list of contacts that can assist Diablo players in reaching their goal of playing in college.  I am super excited to start helping the players who are looking to succeed at the next level while also encouraging the players that are looking to have fun just competing on a good team.
